October 31st is a "magical" holiday for Emily Farrell, owner of "The Magik Herb," 138 Jay Street in Schenectady. This enchanting herb and gift emporium, filled with so many interesting items, shares a peculiar connection to the "All Hallow's Eve" celebration.
Ten years ago, by chance, not planning, "The Magik Herb" opened its doors on Halloween. A couple of years later, when it was decided to make a move to a larger location, the shoppe's reopening was again celebrated on the 31st of October. Finally when "The Magik Herb" was closed temporarily due to fire damage...destiny prevailed and she reopened once more on the same holiday! From the start, Emily tells us she felt as if her path, along with that of the store's, had somehow been predestined.
The "Magik Herb" was conceived when Emily attended an herbal conference in Indianapolis. Before the conference, herbs seemed nothing more than flavorings for her favorite gourmet recipes...now a whole new world was upon her. She was captivated. Amazed with the magical, medicinal and healing properties of herbs, Emily quickly decided on a name..."The Magik Herb" and made up her mind...she was going to open an "herb shoppe."
Although she had originally planned to sell herbs and crystals exclusively, again, fate stepped in and almost immediately "The Magik Herb" and its inventory, began to expand with an unplanned expediency. The shoppe is now an emporium of fascinating items and delightful scents...exquisite, one of a kind jewelry, candles, books, cassettes, incense from companies such as Airs, Maroma and Mystic Temple, Buckwheat Hull pillows, Tarot decks, books, mortar & pestles, Native American items, beautiful ornamental glass oil lamps, aromatherapy bath products and oils...and of course, jars and jars of herbs.
Emily and her staff offer a friendly, down to earth ambiance...a totally relaxed environment, complete with soothing music whispering softly in the backround. Emily and staff are now making ready for the holidays. Shipments are arriving daily. Gift giving ideas are abundant and Magik Herb Gift Certificates are also available. So if your shopping for something special or just for yourself, visit the Magik Herb and you're sure to be delighted.
